Katy Perry is getting into the podcast industry, narrating a series about fellow superstar, Elizabeth Taylor.
elizabeth the firstproduced by Perry, House of Taylor and Imperative, is a 10-episode series about Taylor as an original influencer.
Topics include how Taylor negotiated the first US$1 million salary to play in 1963 Cleopatra, and the creation of a perfume empire when celebrity-endorsed productions were neither common nor popular. Thirty years after its launch, White Diamonds remains one of the world’s leading fragrance brands.
The podcast will also discuss how Taylor has used her stardom to bring attention to HIV/AIDS and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. It will include rare stories from people who knew her best.
In a statement, Perry said of Taylor, “Like most people, I was drawn to her glamour…I’m inspired by her bold activism, her constant boss moves in business, and through it all, an unapologetic way to love – all the things I try to live in my own life. It’s an honor to be able to share her story in this way.”
Taylor adds, “We wholeheartedly believe that this version of Elizabeth will resonate with audiences. Her story is so fitting. And we’re thrilled that people are hearing about her in a different light and seeing her like us. “
elizabeth the first will debut later this spring on all major podcast platforms. Taylor died in 2011.
