Police have charged a man with attempted murder and intentional use of a firearm in an incident in which shots were fired at an RCMP cruiser.
RCMP say Terrance Daigneault, 28, was arrested by Saskatoon police Wednesday night at a business on Northridge Drive.
Sunday morning, the RCMP in La Ronge, Sask. said a patrol car was shot down during a chase. Bullets hit the car’s windshield and pierced its radiator.
RCMP are still looking for two other people charged in connection with the shooting.
Allan Sanderson. 36, is wanted for obstruction and unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
Celina Charles, 22, has been charged with obstruction and a warrant has been issued for her arrest. Police say they believe Charles was inside the suspect vehicle and managed to escape.
Charles is 5ft 11in and weighs 112lbs with black hair and brown eyes. She has a rose tattoo on her left hand, a heart and flame tattoo on her left arm, and the word Charles tattooed on her chest.
Police are warning the public not to approach any of the suspects if spotted and should instead contact the police.
“The Saskatchewan RCMP are working around the clock to locate and arrest those responsible,” the superintendent said. Saskatchewan RCMP North District Commander Ted Munro said in a news release.
“The community and leadership must work in partnership with us to deter and prevent criminal activity at all levels, including providing advice and whereabouts information to these wanted individuals.”
The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations also weighed in on the matter, asking that the three suspects surrender.
“We don’t want to see the violence continue and we don’t want anyone getting hurt, or worse,” vice chief Dutch Lerat said. “We urge these young men to surrender peacefully and seek our spirituality for traditional healing.”
RCMP say the incident began Sunday morning after officers saw a speeding car on Far Reserve Road on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
The patrol car chased her and followed her into the driveway of a nearby house.
After the vehicle stopped, according to the police, the driver got out of the car and fled. RCMP say a second person got out of the car and began shooting at the patrol car, with RCMP returning fire.
The RCMP Critical Incident Response Team was called and a total of 17 people were eventually arrested inside the house, most of whom were eventually released without charge.
An emergency alert has been issued and residents of the La Ronge area have been asked to stay home and lock their doors. The alert was eventually canceled by the police.
Police said Daigneault may have been injured in the incident. The officers were not injured.
