After a two-year hiatus imposed by Covid, Glastonbury Festival is finally back at Worthy Farm in Somerset.

Where and how did Glastonbury start?

In 1971 the festival became known as Glastonbury Fair, with its dates moved to around the time of the summer solstice – 12,000 people attended and tickets were free. It was also the year the first Pyramid stage was constructed from scaffolding and expanded metal covered in plastic sheeting.
The name was changed from Glastonbury Fair to Glastonbury Festival in 1981, while the new Pyramid Stage became a permanent structure, also serving as a stable and feed store during the winter months.

What happened to the iconic Beat Hotel?
One of Glastonbury’s symbols included the iconic Beat Hotel. Originally opened as a small cocktail bar in 2011, it quickly became one of the festival’s most popular venues.
Playing a range of music and reliably serving drinks to festival-goers, this was a notoriously lively area of Worthy Farm.
However, founders Giles Looker, Nick Griffiths and Dan Baxter announced that 2019 was the final year for The Beat Hotel in Glastonbury, after the three friends decided they wanted a change. It has been confirmed that the team will return to Glastonbury running a new business: San Remo hotel, bar and stage.
