Nick Nemeroff, the Montreal comedian whose debut album was nominated for a Juno Award last year, has died at the age of 32.
Nemeroff died on Monday according to a obituary posted on the website of a Montreal funeral home.
His manager, Morgan Flood of Grand Wave Entertainment, said in a text message to CBC News that he did not know the cause of death but “died in his sleep.”
A post on Nemeroff’s Instagram account remembered it as a “comic stripper” with “a unique cadence, a labyrinthine stalemate, and a new take on comedy focused on misdirection.”
“If Nick was on a comedy show, he was guaranteed to walk away with new fans. And he deserved it, because comedy was, in many ways, his life,” the post read.
Nemeroff, who recently lived in Toronto, was nominated for Comedy Album of the Year at the 2021 Junos for his debut This pursuit of comedy ruined my life.
“I love stand-up and jokes more than anything, unfortunately, and this album is the culmination of what I’ve been doing every night for the past seven years,” he told CBC. in 2020, promoting its release.
“However, my biggest hope is that they leave the album thinking I’m sexy.”
He played a set on Conan O’Brien’s late night show when he was 28.
He has also appeared on Just for Laughs, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and most recently on the second season of CTV Battle Canada Roast.

“In addition to his profession, Nick’s family, friends and the Montreal Canadiens were all of great importance to him,” read his obituary. “Infinitely kind, supportive of others, humble about his many skills and accomplishments, Nick Nemeroff lived his life doing what he loved, and that’s how he will be remembered.”
Details of the funeral were not made public, but mourners were encouraged to make a donation in his memory to Planned Parenthood, which was “one of the last things Nick did”.
