SALINA, Kan. (AP) — Karrie Webb shot a 6-under 66 in windy, hot conditions Saturday to take a two-shot lead over playing partner Annika Sorenstam in the LPGA Senior Championship.
Webb birdied six in the bogey-free round in 100-degree heat and 30 mph wind. She was 9 cents with a ride to the Salina Country Club.
“It was very tough today,” Webb said. “I managed my game very well. In fact, I didn’t play par 5s very well, I only birdied two times, but without bogey on a day like today, it’s a very good effort.
Sorenstam had a 68.
“I feel like I’m ready, I feel like I’m swinging well,” Sorenstam said. “I just have to be more patient.”
The Hall of Famers will play together again on Sunday.
“When we play against each other, even if we go out for social success, we’ll probably get the best out of each other,” Webb said. “I think that’s what’s happened in the last few days.”
Lisa DePaulo finished third at 6 under after a 73.
