Mattea Roach wins the 23rd Jeopardy! win and tell the world about the beauty of Cape Breton

It was tough, but Mattea Roach did it again.

The Canadian champion won her 23rd victory on Thursday by answering the last question in the 20th century cinema category.

Roach has now earned a total of US$560,983, or approximately C$720,105.

As for the last question, Roach’s earnings totaled $13,000 with Sarah Snider, a college teacher from Indiana who earns $22,600 and TJ Lovejoy, a mortgage lender from Arizona, who hangs out with 3 $600.

The final clue was, “A black-and-white newsreel in this film begins: ‘In Xanadu, did Kubla Khan decree a majestic pleasure dome.’

Roach guessed “What is Citizen Kane?” and was the only one to answer correctly.

In twenty-three matches, Roach recorded 633 correct answers and 59 incorrect answers, placing her in sixth place among the Jeopardy champions for the number of correct answers. Number one was, of course, Ken Jennings.

Visit your native country

Peril! episodes are filmed months in advance. Roach is back in the Maritimes and on Thursday, she tweeted a photo of herself in front of a sign on Church’s Supermarket in Marion’s Bridge, Nova Scotia that read “THIS NS SUPERCHAMP MAKING JEOPARDY HISTORY.

The store is owned by his great-aunt and uncle, and the sign has been regularly updated as he wins.

Sharing the beauty of Cape Breton

During Thursday’s game, host Jennings asked Roach what her favorite place in Canada was and she said it was in and around Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

“My mom grew up about a 10 minute drive from the entrance to this national park in Ingonish,” she said. “My grandparents still live there, so I’ve been lucky enough to visit the beautiful scenery there at least once a year pretty much my entire life.”

Jennings replied, “Canadians are swollen with pride right now hearing you talk about the beautiful landscape of the Atlantic provinces.”
