Earlier this month, Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered child protective services to investigate parents of transgender youth seeking gender-affirming care. Going so far as to say that such care should be categorized as “child abuse”. Abbot’s directive, while not actually law, was an alarming consequence of an increase in anti-trans bills being proposed at the state level across the United States. In Alabama, lawmakers introduced a bill that would make it a felony, punishable by up to 10 years. in prison, for a doctor to provide gender-affirming care to minors.
