A 21-year-old woman and a teenage girl are in custody after they were arrested for allegedly trying to abduct a toddler during a garage sale.
The child’s mother told police two people approached the toddler, who was walking with a relative, then tried to walk away with her at Redcar Racecourse on Thrush Road, Middlesbrough, on Sunday after- noon.
Cleveland police said when the two men were arrested, they let the child go and were later detained. Both are currently being questioned by detectives.
A police spokesperson said: “Investigations into the alleged incident involving a two-year-old child at Redcar Racecourse on Sunday afternoon are ongoing, and two women remain in custody and are being questioned.

A previous appeal for witnesses said a woman reported her two-year-old was walking beside a family member when two women approached her and tried to walk away with her.
