Six other people on a Sunwing flight to Mexico last year on which passengers were filmed partying face hefty fines.
Transportation Minister Omar Alghabra said in a tweet that they risked fines of up to $5,000 because of the Dec. 30 flight from Montreal to Cancun.
He says five of the cases involve failure to follow vaccination rules and one for not wearing a mask.
There are consequences for those who break the rules! We have issued a new set of 6 penalties, up to $5,000, to travelers on the December 30 flight to Cancun. 5 penalties for non-compliance with vaccination rules & 1 penalty for not wearing a mask. 12 penalties so far. More soon!
Transport Canada has issued a dozen penalties in total so far and says more are expected.
Videos of the charter flight shared on social media showed unmasked passengers nearby singing and dancing in the aisle and on seats as bottles of alcohol squeezed, took selfies and sprayed.
The Federal Department of Transport launched an investigation on January 4 to determine whether the travelers violated laws or regulations relating to aviation safety and security.
