Nationally-ranked Providence High baseball knocks out TC Roberson, heads to state finals

Providence High’s nationally ranked baseball team will play in the NC 4A State Championship Series next week.

The Panthers got a brilliant pitching performance from Michael Forret and beat TC Roberson 3-0 on Friday night, winning the best of 3 regional championships 2-0. Providence won the game 10-0 on Tuesday behind a 16 strikeout and one hit performance by South Carolina rookie Eli Jerzembeck.

The Panthers (32-0) will face either Fuquay-Varina or Pinecrest in the best-of-3 state finals series, which begins Friday.

Providence will seek its third ring.

Providence won its first state championship in 1995, defeating New Hanover. The Panthers lost to JH Rose High of Greenville in 1997. The Panthers returned to the Finals and won in 2015, beating Millbrook.
